This vase was fired using the obvara Raku method. The obvara solution is made from fermented yeast, flour, water and sugar. The pots are exposed to the solution at around 1600 degrees and it produces wonderfully unpredictable patterns! The texture on the lower half of this piece is achieved by using sodium silicate, which is applied during the throwing process to create physical and unique cracking patterns in the clay.
This is not a water tight vase and is meant for decorative purposes only. This piece measures 7” x 5.5”
